It’s often the most cost-effective way to add real space, because one set of foundations and one roof serve two floors. Do I need planning permission?
Most double storey extensions need planning permission, though some smaller rear ones can come under permitted development. We’ll tell you which applies and handle the application.
What about the neighbours?
If you’re building on or near a shared boundary, the Party Wall Act may apply. We’ll tell you at the start if it does.
Can we stay in the house while you build?
Usually, yes – so far all our clients have stayed at home throughout. On a very large project it can be better to move out for part of the build; if so, we’ll tell you at the start.
